RICHARD H. NEWSOME, SR.
Feb. 20, 1927 - Oct. 10, 2002
Richard H. Newsome, Sr. died at his Price Road home in Phenix City at the age of 75. Retired from Civil Service at Fort Benning, Ga., he was an U.S. Army verteran who served his country in World War II. He was a deacon of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Smiths Station, Ala., and was born in Russell County, the son of Alton Otis Newsome, Sr. and Ruby Pearl McCollum Newsome.
Preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Pearl Milner, he is survived by his wife Pauline Newsome, Phenix City; two daughters, Margaret Newsome of Smiths Station and Betty Jane Redmond, Dothan, Ala.; a son Richard H. Newsome, Jr. Douglasville, Ga.; five sisters, Ruth Pulsifer, Sacramento, Calif., Jessie Bush, Ashland, Ala., Carolyn Evans, Evelyn Acton and Mary Donaldson, all of Phenix City; four brothers, Alton Otis Newsome, Jr., Dan Newsome, both of Phenix City and Ralph and Roy Newsome, both of Georgiana, Ala.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Newsome were held Oct. 12 at Vance Memorial Chapel, the Reverends Mark Redmond and John Rigby officiating. Interment followed at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.
